How a French wedding day actually runs
If you are planning a destination wedding in France from the UK, the US, Australia or anywhere else, the shape of the day is probably not what you expect. Here is how it actually runs, and what your DJ and MC does at each point.
The town hall
French law only recognises a civil ceremony at the mairie. It is short, it is in French, and it is where the legal marriage happens. Most couples then hold the ceremony they actually planned somewhere else.
The ceremony
Outdoor, symbolic, religious or humanist. This is where the sound matters most: your vows have to be heard on the back row, and the processional has to start on the right beat. We handle microphones, speakers and the live musicians if you have them.
Le vin d'honneur
The part no one outside France expects. Two or three hours of drinks and canapes, often outside, for a wider guest list than the dinner. It sets the mood of the whole evening. We keep the music present and the volume low enough that people can actually talk.
The seated dinner
A French wedding dinner is long, several courses, with speeches and games between them. This is where evenings die. We keep it moving: a precise running order agreed with your caterer, announcements in English and French, and nothing that drags.
The first dance
Later than most international couples expect, and that is normal here. Low fog, cold sparks, a live saxophonist if you want one. Then we open the floor immediately, while the room is still full.
The party
Both families, three generations, two musical cultures. This is the whole job. We read the room and we keep the floor full to the last song.
You will get this timeline in writing, in English, weeks before the day. Your caterer, your photographer and your venue manager get the French version. That single document is what stops a bilingual wedding from turning into a translation exercise on the day.

Fetes Comme Chez Vous has been working with couples for more than 15 years, with over 400 weddings in Paris and across Ile-de-France. Based in Palaiseau, just south of Paris, our team of English-speaking wedding DJs works with British, American, Australian, Irish and expat couples across the whole region. Do you speak English, and can you host the whole evening in English?
Yes. Every call, every email and every planning document is in English. On the day, the microphone work is in English, in French, or in both, exactly as you want it. Announcements, introductions, speeches, the first dance, the cake: your guests always know what is happening and when.
We live abroad and we are getting married in France. How does that work?
That is a large part of what we do. Everything is agreed remotely by video call, and we send you a written running order you can share with your family and your other suppliers. We know how a French reception is built, from the ceremony to the vin d’honneur to a seated dinner that runs late, and we speak directly with your French caterer, photographer and venue manager. You never have to translate anything twice.
How much does a wedding DJ cost in Paris and Ile-de-France?
Packages start at €1,200 incl. VAT. Most international weddings come in around €2,000, and that is the format we recommend: an English-speaking DJ and MC for the whole evening, from the ceremony to the last song. That is the reason for the price: hosting a wedding in English is not something we subcontract.
The Signature package, €2,900 incl. VAT, guarantees Julien himself behind the decks and on the microphone, subject to availability on your date.
Travel is charged per kilometre from Palaiseau, south of Paris. Prices shown include French VAT, so there is no surprise on the final invoice. Every quote is free and built around your venue, your date and your options.
How far in advance should we book?
Saturdays from May to September are usually booked 12 to 18 months ahead. Some dates stay open a few months before the wedding. The quickest way to know: send us your date and your venue through the form, and we confirm our availability within 48 hours.
Can you run a wedding with two languages and two cultures?
Yes, and it is one of the things we are known for. We announce in two languages and we build a floor where both families dance to each other’s music. Western, Middle Eastern, Jewish, Indian, Portuguese, Brazilian, Asian, African: we prepare the key tracks with you beforehand, including the ones with a specific ritual attached, so nothing is improvised on the night.
Which areas do you cover, and do you already know our venue?
We cover Paris and the whole of Ile-de-France (75, 77, 78, 91, 92, 93, 94, 95) and we travel further for a full weekend. We have worked in more than 235 venues: chateaux, orangeries, barns, rooftops, hotels and private estates.
